Sister Marie Michael of the Holy Eucharist, C.P., 89, (Mildred "Millie” Louise Aull) died Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the Passionist Nuns Monastery in Whitesville, KY due to side-effects suffered in a fall.

Born December 12, 1929, in Knottsville, daughter of the late Michael Xavier Aull and Mary Pauline Mattingly Aull, Sr. Marie Michael was baptized at St. William Catholic Church in Knottsville. After attending St. William grade school and high school, she spent one year at Mount St. Joseph College (Maple Mount) before entering the Passionist Nuns Monastery, then located in Owensboro, on October 7, 1948.

She professed her first vows in 1950 and perpetual vows in 1953. Whether it was working in the garden or sacristy, playing a game of Scrabble, or praying in chapel, Sister did everything with great intensity and love. When told a week before her death that she was soon going home to God she said “Great news!” with her characteristic enthusiasm. She loved her family with phenomenal devotion and esteem to the very end. The last words we heard were of her praying for her family members by name, that all would one day be reunited in beholding God face-to-face in Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by 10 of her 14 siblings: Therese Elizabeth “Jakie” Miller, Mary Thomasine “Tommie” Higdon, Thomas Charles and Hazel Ruth (both of whom died in infancy), Sr. Margaret Joseph Aull, OSU (Maple Mount), Joseph Harry “Jack” Aull, William “Bill” Aull, James “Jim” Aull, Beverly Clark, Joseph “Joe” Aull; by sisters and brothers-in-law; a niece and several nephews.

She is survived by four siblings: Sister Mary Naomi Aull, OSU (Maple Mount), Robert “Bob” Aull, Joy Dunn, and Anna Carolyn “Cricket” Lyddane (Joe Lyddane); a sister-in-law Lena Aull; and MANY beloved nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Passionist Monastery, 8564 Crisp Road, Whitesville, with Bishop William F. Medley officiating. Burial is in the Passionist Monastery cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the monastery where prayers are at 6:00 p.m. Friday led by Fr. Ray Clark.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Mass offerings or Memorial offerings to the Passionist Nuns.  We express our deep gratitude to the family of Sr. Marie Michael, and to the staff of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Their care permitted us to keep Sr. Marie Michael with us in the monastery until she drew her last breath.
