A Peek at our New Stained-Glass Windows...!

Donna meeting with the Chapter Nuns to discuss glass colors

The Holy Family Wing is drawing closer to completion! It’s not uncommon these days to see a group of nuns poking around the worksite in the evenings, exclaiming over each new fixture, baseboard, and coat of finish. It won’t be long now before we can start moving in!

One of the most exciting aspects of this project is the stained glass that will be installed in our new Chapter Room. For months we’ve been working closely with Donna Baldacci of Kaleidoscope Stained Glass to hash out design details for our six Chapter Room windows. We have been impressed every step of the way with Donna’s enthusiasm for her work, attention to detail, and creativity in expressing our Passionist “story” in glass.

The windows will commemorate our four recent anniversaries (300th of the Passionist Congregation, 250th of the Passionist Nuns, 75th of our monastery’s foundation, and 25th of our relocation to Whitesville), as well as our two principal patrons (Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Joseph). Each one is a masterpiece of symbolism and visual storytelling, and we can’t wait until the paper designs we’ve seen are translated into glass!

It will be several months before all the windows are complete, but some Sisters recently had the chance to stop by Donna’s studio and check out the progress on the first piece. Window #1 commemorates the foundation of the Passionist Congregation in 1720, when St. Paul of the Cross made his 40-day retreat in Castellazzo, Italy, and wrote the first Rule. We couldn’t resist giving you a sneak peek at some of Donna’s beautiful work in progress!
